Council backs annual community spring clean

The annual nationwide litter campaign, delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, will finally be taking place between Friday, May 28th and Sunday, June 13th this year.

Working with its waste contractor, Biffa, Rother District Council is offering equipment and advice for anyone wanting to get involved, as well as help with disposing of the litter they collect.

Councillor Sue Prochak, portfolio holder for environment and place, said: “This is a great opportunity for communities to come together, make a difference and take pride in the place they live.

“During lockdowns we have all appreciated the wonderful countryside and local environment so much, and community litter picking is a good way to show gratitude and give something back.

“Previous events have seen hundreds of sacks of litter collected leaving us with cleaner streets, parks and beaches, protecting wildlife and preventing plastic polluting our oceans.”

She added: “We are proud to be supporting the event again this year, and are extremely grateful to our waste contractor, Biffa, who have offered to pick up the collected litter free of charge.”

Anyone interested in arranging a litter pick in their local area, or knows of one already planned that could benefit from support, can contact contractservices@rother.gov.uk
